Aadhaar e-Sign is an online electronic signature service in India to facilitate an Aadhaar holder to digitally sign a document. Aadhaar e-Signs are recognised as an accepted method of secure electronic signatures as part of the second schedule of the Information Technology Act, 2008 (IT Act).
As per section 67A of the Indian Evidence Act, 1872, in case of Aadhaar e-Sign, one does not need to prove that the authenticity of the digital signature of the subscriber. The signature service is facilitated by authenticating the Aadhaar holder via the 12 digit Aadhaar number or 16 digit virtual ID issued by UIDAI.
The signer will receive a notification on mail to sign the document on Cygnature using his Aadhaar e-Sign. He will open the email and click the button “Sign Now” to sign the document.
After the verification, Cygnature will capture the Aadhaar e-Sign on the document.
Aadhaar e-Signs are an accepted method of secure electronic signatures as part of second schedule of the Information Technology Act, 2008. The IT Act recognises Aadhaar e-Sign as having legal validity equivalent to that of physical signatures.
Users in India with valid Aadhaar number can sign documents with Aadhaar e-Sign. Signers can sign documents simply in just 2-3 steps provided that you have a valid Aadhaar number & that is linked to your registered and working mobile number.
The Aadhaar e-Sign availability is high in India when compared to digital signature on USB dongle. Not every signers might have the DSC dongle In India, but most of them will have a valid Aadhaar number, so it is very easy to get Aadhaar e-Sign.
