What is Oman PKI?

Oman PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) is a national initiative taken by the government of Oman to enable its people, organization, and employees to securely conduct online transactions.

The Oman PKI provides electronic transactions protection against identity fraud, data integrity, data confidentiality, strong authentication and non-repudiation, trust, confidence and easiness to use online services for citizens and residents.

Digital signature approaches in Oman

ID PKI

ID based PKI include USB dongle and smart card. USB dongle can be issued from ITA and PKI card is issued to all citizen having identification of designation and company of employee.

Mobile PKI

Employee can activate PKI on his mobile SIM card. Digital signature can be done by authentication via mobile app.

Server-side PKI

Employees can sign documents by authenticating with a server which is integrated with ITA services for verification.

How does it work?

Server-side PKI

Step 1

The initiator sends documents for signing from Cygnature.

Step 2

The signer will receive a notification on email to sign the document on Cygnature. Signer will open the email and click the button “Sign Now” to sign the document.

Step 3

Now Cygnature takes the signer to the ITA verification server. The ITA server is installed with a self-signed security certificate, by which the signer authenticates himself and signs the document automatically.

Step 4

The initiator receives the signed document while being assured of the authenticity of the signing entity.

Mobile PKI

Step 1

The employee activates the PKI on the mobile sim card.

Step 2

The employee authenticates himself via mobile app.

Step 3

The employee digitally signs the document.

Step 1

ID-based PKI includes a USB dongle and smart card.

Step 2

USB dongle will be issued from ITA and PKI to all citizens having an identification of designation and company of employee.

Step 3

The initiator will send the document to the employee or citizen for signing.

Step 4

The signer receives a signing request.

Step 5

The signer automatically signs the document by using the USB dongle or smart card with a self-signed security certificate installed.

Step 6

The initiator receives the signed document.
